books books books!

oh how i love to read.
i got this one from Jenaveve (i wish i have a name like that) over at August Street (under the blog crushes section ;D)
play along if you want.

Do you snack while you read? If so, favourite reading snack?
sometimes i do and sometimes i don't. and i don't really snack on the same thing each time.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read them, or does the idea of writing on your books horrify you?
oh goodness. i've always thought of writing in books, but i absolutely can't stand when my books are in any condition other than practicallly brand-new.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog ears? Leaving the book open flat?
bookmarks. i can't stand it when people dog ear books. that's book abuse.

Fiction, Non-Fiction or both?
depends on the kind of non-fiction, but i would say both, generally.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I like to get to the end of the chapter, but most of the time that doesn't happen, so i just stop at the end of a paragraph or one of those handy stopping points.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
not unless i see it again.

What are you currently reading?
for my english class i'm reading things fall apart by chinua achebe. for leisure, i'm reading looking for alaska by john green but, sadly, i haven't picked it up in a while.

What is the last book you bought?
the last books i bought (almost exactly a year ago) were how to be bad, five people that died during sex, and why do men fall asleep after sex?. it sounds like a raunchy collection, i know, but none of them actually center on sex. the first is a fiction piece about girls that go on a roadtrip through florida, the second is a book of lists (one of which is it's namesake), and the last one is a book about random health questions people have.

Are you the type of person who can only read one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
i can only read one book at a time (not including books for school)

Do you prefer series or stand alone books?
depends on the series. twlight and harry potter are far too long for me, but i did like the sisterhood of the traveling pants.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
i generally recommend sarah dessen books because i've read a handful of them and they're usually the first ones that come to mind.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)
i group them by books i've read and books i haven't read. the ones i have read are vertical on my shelves; the ones i haven't are horizontal. XD weird, i know. but that's how i like it.

tag!

i got this from naturally nina. (visit her, the link is on the side under blog crushes).
not that i'm trying to be a copy cat, but if you are reading this, consider yourself tagged. let me know if you posted your answers so i can see what you have to say!

1. what books are on your favorite shelf?
song of the sparrow by lisa ann sandell, how to be bad by e. lockhart, sarah mlynowski, lauren myracle, just listen by sarah dessen, when it happens by susane colasanti, and stargirl by jerry spinelli

2. what dvds are on your favorite shelf?
slumdog millionaire, the breakfast club, pretty in pink, vacation, bring it on, and how to lose a guy in 10 days.

3. what are your two favorite cookbooks?
i only have one and it's a duncan hines cookbook. it has an amazing recipe for cupcakes with peanut butter frosting :D

4. select one to three recipes you will cook for your special guests:
those cupcakes

5. what will we be drinking that's available?
hmm.. i'm not really sure what this is asking.. you mean what do i have at my house that we could drink or if i could pick any drink what would it be? i suppose i'll combine the two: chocolate milk.

and five random facts
1. every time i think of the fact that you can't lick your elbows, i feel the urge to try anyway.
2. i absolutely love peanuts (the cartoon)
3. i've been offered an amazing opportunity to serve on the event planning team for our international youth conference this year.
4. i wore valentine's day socks today. i usually don't wear socks.
5. i love to listen to mix cd's in my car way more than i like regular cd's or the radio.

on a side note, i've decided on tale of a dream unknown for my new name. i'm in the process of fixing the site up all pretty. once i get it finished, i'll let you know. ;D

have a lovely week!

just a minute...in september

yeah, it's a day early, but i couldn't wait to do my JAM for this month. i figured i'd probably have more time today than tomorrow (i had next to no homework tonight, whereas i have a crew meeting for west side story and a hair appointment tomorrow.)

watching... some great tv. i absolutely love glee. and i can't wait for ugly betty to come back. and i rejoyced at the return of snl! oh how long i've waited for new episodes...

reading... looking for alaska by john green. finally! the library had it in! i haven't gotten to read a whole lot since i checked it out, though, because i've been swamped with homework.

excitedly awaiting... fall rally! the beginning of november will bring me to all my friends from colorado, among other places. i haven't seen them since june.

loving...

  • all my friends.
  • my church family.
  • the lemon cake my mom baked for my sister's birthday.
  • cute etsy shops.
  • graphic design, spanish, and history.
  • catchy and uplifting songs.
  • cute and comfy clothes (especially my striped cardigan).
  • life.

finishing... my latest graphic design project. we're designing the cover for the program of study for all the middle school and high school kids in my whole district (the book that gives you a description of every single class). i finally wrapped up my self portrait made out of letters and other characters (obviously i took advantage of the simplicity of parentheses).

it's based on the photo that is my current/display/default photo.

contemplating... new blog names. the only one i've come up with that i think is catchy is tale of a dream unknown. what do you think?

listening... to electric feel my mgmt and new perspective by panic! at the disco quite a bit. (panic! is one of my most favorites. i'm so glad they brought the exclamation point back, but i'm super disappointed that they've been sliced in half.)

happy birthday!

so i originally started this post on sunday, which was my birthday. i meant to throw in picutres but put that off until later and never picked it back up this week so... here we go.

i got the cutest little things for my birthday. some hilights: cupcake band aids, jones soda mints, a polka-dotted lunch bag, a pretty necklace, a gorgeous poster for my room when i finally get it repainted, and a reference book i've been wanting.
i got quite a handful of birthday wishes from my friends on facebook. it absolutely made my day.

i was thinking (on my birthday) about my birthday last year. i've come a long way since then, and i'm really proud of myself for that.

it just dawned on me. i got my computer last year on my birthday. happy birthday atticus! :D

well, this has been a sufficiently random post.
i don't recall where these came from, so i can't give proper credit, but i thought they were fitting.

currently suck in my head: birthday by the beatles and can you feel the love tonight from the lion king :D

oh. and i blew out all the candles on my cake in one breath. can't tell you the last time i did that. i guess my wish is going to come true!

spring at every opportunity...

i'm nearly homework-free tonight! yay! :D
so i thought i'd take advantage of the abilty to blog on a week day (i can already tell that will be rare this year).
actually, i should be reading and summarizing an article for astronomy, but i'm not feeling it right now. because i wanted to share something that i thought was just the coolest thing.
last night, i was thinking about how this year is going to be and how much change is going to have to take place, and i came upon a post of a quote that i just had to reblog:

"May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t to forget make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself." — Neil Gaiman

wow. how awesome is that?
i keep trying to keep this in mind, even though it seems a lot of negative things are overriding it right now.

oh. and i thought this was awesome:

:D
currently, my favorite song has got to be Better Part of Me by House of Fools
image credits are on my tumblr. the link should be over on the side somewhere.
oh, and i was trying to put a link in this post, but i hadn't done it in so long, i'd completely forgotten! can anyone help?
have a great week!

JAMinAugust2.0

yeah, i know, i already did an august JAM. but since it's techinically supposed to be done on the 29th of each month (that seems to make more sense now that i think about it) i decided i would stop being a rulebreaker and go ahead and wait till the end of the month since i am now aware of the specific date. :D so here we go..

needing... more sleep. i've been getting up way earlier since school's started and my sleeping habits haven't quite adjusted yet.

reading... wrecked by e.r. frank (because i want to) and the handmaid's tale by margaret atwood (for my english class. it's...interesting. to say the least.)

enjoying... my graphic design, history, and sociology classes.

non-enjoying... taking my friend to and from school everyday (sometimes) and getting up early and having homework every night in the same subjects (all the time).

drinking... a route 44 cherry coke from sonic at happy hour. my new love.

listening... to my playlist of favorite beatles songs. the current song is: back in the USSR. (it makes me think of a russian version of the beach boys :D)

wondering... how i could switch up my routine a little; i'm already bored and i've only been in school for two weeks. any suggestions? what do you do when you need some variety in your life?

recommending - if you wanna play (i highly recommend it; it's actually a lot of fun), check out the link over in the sidebar. there's a box with a little picture that will take you straight to the directions, or in the i love reading... section you can just scoot on down to August Street.

have a fabulous weekend!
